The Tunescribers Arranging Competition is in full swing, and we’re excited to introduce our expert judging panel! With backgrounds spanning Broadway, film, video games, and cutting-edge music technology, our judges bring a wealth of experience to the table. But before we get into their impressive bios, here’s a quick rundown of how the judging process will work.


🔎 How the Judging Works

All entries will first be reviewed by the Tunescribers team to create a shortlist of the most outstanding arrangements. From there, our esteemed panel of judges will carefully evaluate the finalists, considering creativity, musicality, and craftsmanship to determine the winners.


Martin Keary / Tantacrul

🎶 Martin Keary / Tantacrul

Martin Keary is a composer who studied under Gordon McPherson at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

As the Head of Software at Muse Group, Martin plays a crucial role in overseeing and mentoring the teams responsible for the company’s diverse range of products, including MuseScore Studio, Audio.com, Audacity, and MuseSounds.

Outside of his professional responsibilities, Martin runs a YouTube channel called ‘Tantacrul’, where he shares his thoughts on music, technology, philosophy, and design. It is a space where he can blend his personal interests with his professional expertise, engaging with a community that shares his enthusiasm for creativity and innovation.

Ben Rauhala

🎭 Ben Rauhala

Benjamin Rauhala is one of the Broadway community’s most trusted music directors and collaborators. He is the Music Supervisor, co-creator, and ‘Fairy Godfairy’ of Disney Princess – The Concert, touring over 100 cities in North America throughout 2022, and internationally in 2023. He helped conceive and arrange the opening and closing numbers of the 2022 Tony Awards for Academy Award winner Ariana DeBose.

Rauhala has toured the world since 2014 as the music director for Jeremy Jordan, the Tony-nominated star of Broadway’s Newsies and TV’s Supergirl, and in 2020, he was named ‘Best Musical Director’ at the Broadway World Cabaret Awards.

Peter Michael Davison

🎮 Peter Michael Davison

Peter Michael Davison is a versatile and multitalented composer, orchestrator, and conductor with a diverse portfolio of award-winning international projects. He orchestrated and conducted the acclaimed PS4 epic, Horizon Zero Dawn (2017). Peter returned as conductor and orchestrator for the sequel, Horizon Forbidden West, and the downloadable content, Burning Shores.

In 2022, he composed the original score for Warped Kart Racers (Family Guy IP), a new flagship release animated game for Apple Arcade. Peter composed additional music and orchestrated on the Illumination/Universal feature animation Migration for John Powell. Peter is part of Danny Elfman’s orchestration team for his concert repertoire.

Joe Beighton

🎭 Joe Beighton

Joe is an Olivier Award and Grammy Award-nominated Musical Supervisor, Orchestrator, Arranger, and Music Producer. He began his career Music Supervising and creating the vocal arrangements for the Tony Award-winning score of Six The Musical.

Since working on Six, he has been devoted to developing more new musical theatre. He is Musical Supervisor, Orchestrator, and Vocal Arranger for 42 Balloons (The Lowry), Babies (The Other Palace), and Hot Mess (Birmingham Hippodrome).

Introducing the Tunescribers Arranging Competition 2025!

Are you ready to put your arranging skills to the test? The Tunescribers Arranging Competition 2025 is your chance to create a unique solo piano arrangement and compete for fantastic prizes, industry recognition, and a chance to showcase your work to a global audience!

How It Works

Responsive Image

🔹 Receive the prompt – On 1 March 2025, you’ll receive a public domain melody and one other creative prompt to guide your arrangement.

🔹 Create your arrangement – You’ll have until 14 March 2025 to craft a 2-minute piano arrangement that’s playable by a human pianist. Any style, any genre. Do anything you like to the prompt melody – play it backwards, upside down, chop it into tiny bits – get as creative as you can!

🔹 Submit your work – Send us your notation file, PDF score, and audio mockup using our simple submission form.

🔹 Judging & Public VoteA panel of expert judges will evaluate the shortlisted entries, and a public vote will determine the Audience Favourite winner! Make sure to follow us on social media to be the first to hear when we announce the judges.

🔹 Winners Announced – Results will be published on 14 April 2025.

  • Concessionary: Entry for those aged 16-21, in full-time education, or over 65. Proof of eligibility may be requested.
  • Standard: Regular entry for all participants.
  • Concessionary + Critique: Entry for those eligible for the Concessionary tier, plus written feedback from the judges on your arrangement. Proof of eligibility may be requested.
  • Standard + Critique: Regular entry, plus written feedback from the judges on your arrangement.

All tiers are available with an Early Bird discount if you purchase your ticket before 16 February 2025.

Free Entry (Financial Difficulty): For those experiencing financial hardship, a limited number of free entries are available. To request one, email info@tunescribers.com. These will be provided on a no-questions-asked, first-come-first-served basis.

Critique Tier: Receive Personalised Feedback

For those looking to improve their arranging skills, our Critique Tier offers detailed, constructive feedback from our panel of judges. If you select this option, you will receive at least half a page of written feedback, covering:

  • Your harmonic, rhythmic, and structural choices.
  • How effectively your arrangement develops the given melody.
  • Playability and practical suggestions for performance.
  • Suggestions for improvement to refine your arranging style.

Critique Tier feedback will be delivered no later than 14 May 2025. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain expert insights into your arranging style!

Key Rules & Guidelines

📜 Your arrangement must:

  • Be an original work based on the provided melody.
  • Be playable by a real pianist.
  • Be no longer than 2 minutes.
  • Be submitted in PDF, notation file, and MP3/WAV formats.
